Türkiye and Azerbaijan signed defence agreements worth more than $500 million, including a deal for 14 Turkish-built Hürkuş-II trainer aircraft, a Turkish official said on Wednesday.
The agreements were signed at the Azerbaijan International Defence Exhibition (ADEX 2026) in Baku, as the two countries seek to deepen military and industrial cooperation.
Haluk Görgün, head of Türkiye’s defence industries secretariat, said the deals would strengthen both countries’ defence capabilities and their ability to act together during conflicts, natural disasters and other emergencies.
The agreements include a procurement contract with Turkish Aerospace Industries for the Hürkuş-II, a turboprop aircraft designed for basic pilot training and limited combat operations.
According to Görgün, all 14 aircraft will be delivered to Azerbaijan before the end of the year.
The Hürkuş-II is the latest version of Türkiye’s domestically developed Hürkuş family of aircraft, designed to replace older trainers and improve advanced pilot instruction and readiness.
Other contracts covered Baykar’s Mızrak smart loitering munition and Antidot electronic warfare system, as well as Roketsan’s Barbaros coastal-defence platform.
Turkish advanced electronics firm Aselsan also signed a memorandum of understanding to supply Azerbaijan with its ALP-100 radar system.
The agreements signed in Baku also extended beyond direct equipment purchases.
Turkish and Azerbaijani institutions signed cooperation agreements covering education, research, logistics, radio-frequency technology and local manufacturing.
Aselsan also signed a preliminary deal with Azerbaijani technology firm NOVASIS to build a production facility in Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan’s exclave bordering Türkiye.
“We will train our engineers together with brotherly Azerbaijan,” Görgün was quoted as saying. “Local production and joint projects will be steps that strengthen our bonds of brotherhood.”
Türkiye and Azerbaijan maintain close political and military ties, often described by their leaders as “One nation, two states.”
Türkiye strongly backed Azerbaijan in past conflicts with Armenia over Garabagh and has helped train and modernise the Azerbaijani armed forces.
