U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy were discussing ways to find a solution to end Russia’s war in Ukraine.

The two leaders held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. Trump also said they would discuss Patriot missile systems during the meeting.

Erdoğan says Türkiye in contact with Russia, Ukraine over Black Sea safety

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Tuesday that Ankara was continuing contacts with both Russia and Ukraine to help ensure navigational safety in the Black Sea.

Speaking at the UN General Assembly, Erdoğan said attacks on commercial vessels were unacceptable regardless of who carried them out.

He added that Türkiye hoped for an end to the Russia-Ukraine war while preserving Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Russia says forces strike cargo vessel at Ukraine’s Odesa port

Russian forces struck a cargo vessel at Ukraine’s Black Sea port of Odesa on Tuesday, Russia’s Defence Ministry said, alleging that the vessel was suspected of supplying the Ukrainian military.

Putin, Saudi crown prince urge swift end to Yemen hostilities

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman discussed the worsening situation in the Middle East and the need to ensure safe passage through the Bab el-Mandeb and Strait of Hormuz, the Kremlin said on Tuesday.

The two leaders also called for a swift end to hostilities in Yemen, stressing that a political and diplomatic settlement was the only viable path forward.

The Kremlin said the two key waterways were essential to international maritime trade. Disruptions in both have complicated Saudi oil exports, forcing Riyadh to rely more heavily on alternative routes via Egypt’s Suez Canal.

Russia turns to Arctic port for grain exports amid Black Sea disruptions

Russia’s Arctic port of Murmansk plans to ship its first grain exports from southern Russia as early as next month, using equipment normally used to load fertiliser, as the Black Sea route remains closed due to Ukrainian drone attacks.

The port, about 2,700 km from Russia’s main grain export hub at Novorossiysk, said it would use a direct-transfer system that moves grain from railcars directly into ships. It is also adapting conveyor systems to handle larger grain volumes.

Russian companies have been repurposing fertiliser, coal and other cargo terminals at Baltic and Arctic ports to handle grain exports as alternative routes become necessary.

Rubio backs energy infrastructure ceasefire in Ukraine

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said a ceasefire covering energy infrastructure in Ukraine would be a “great idea.”

He made the comment in an interview with Fox News, adding that he wants to bring the war to an end and he mentioned that he's concerned about the U.S. linked ships that are being targeted.

One killed in Ukrainian drone strike

One man was killed and three wounded in a Ukrainian drone attack on an ambulance in a Russian-controlled part of Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region, a Russian official said on Tuesday.

Reuters could not independently confirm the statement by Yevgeny Balitsky, the Russian-appointed governor of Zaporizhzhia.

Drone damages Zaporizhzhia radiation monitoring station

A radiation monitoring station near the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southeastern Ukraine was damaged in a Ukrainian drone attack, the plant's Russian-installed management said. 

Ukraine secures $841 million from World Bank

Ukraine has secured $841 million from the World Bank under guarantees from the Canadian government, Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi said on Tuesday.

“The funds will be used to reimburse state budget expenditures on pension payments,” he said on Telegram.

Russia plans to buy 3 million tons of grain

Russia plans to buy 3 million metric tons of grain in 2026-27 for state storage, Interfax reported, citing the agriculture ministry. Domestic grain producers are struggling to export their grain due to disruptions at sea ports.

Russian strike damages oil and gas facility in Poltava

A Russian ballistic missile attack caused critical damage to an oil and gas facility in Ukraine's central region of Poltava overnight, Ukrainian energy company Naftogaz said.

Naftogaz said at least five missiles hit the technological facilities that had already been shut down and will be out of operation for some time.

Kremlin says Russia seeks alternative grain routes

The Kremlin said that there had been further diplomatic contacts about a proposal by Türkiye for the safe passage of grain via the Black Sea, and that Russia was finding alternate routes for its grain exports in the meantime.

Both Russia and Ukraine have stepped up attacks on the other side's grain vessels in the Black Sea in recent months, sending global prices higher.

Zelenskyy arrives in U.S. for UN General Assembly

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in New York on Tuesday to attend the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

About 20 meetings are planned, including talks with U.S. President Donald Trump and European leaders, Zelenskyy said in a statement on X.

He said the meetings will also include U.S. senators and House members, executives of leading U.S. companies, heads of international organisations and think tanks.

Russia says forces hit cargo ship, oil refinery in Ukraine

Russia's defence ministry said that its forces had struck targets in Ukraine, including a cargo vessel delivering military equipment to the Black Sea port of Odesa and an oil refinery in the city of Kremenchuk.

Russian attack on Ukraine’s Dnipro kills three

An overnight Russian attack on the southeastern Ukrainian city of Dnipro killed three people, regional Governor Oleksandr Hanzha said on Tuesday.

Drones hit civilian targets in Russia's Samara region

Ukrainian drones hit civilian targets, including private houses and cars, in Russia's Samara region on the Volga River, which hosts critically important facilities such as oil refineries, the local governor said on Tuesday.

Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said on the Telegram messaging app dozens of drones had been downed overnight by air defences.

The mayor of Samara, Ivan Noskov, said on the Max messenger platform that air defences had thwarted a massive attack on the city, located over 1,000 kilometres (621 miles) southeast of Moscow.

Russia hits sea vessels and port infrastructure

The Russian defence ministry said its forces had carried out a massive strike on targets in Ukraine, hitting industrial and military facilities, the fuel and energy sector, as well as port infrastructure and sea vessels operating for the Ukrainian military.

The ministry said its air defence units had intercepted and destroyed 297 drones over various Russian regions overnight.

Zelenskyy meets Macron in New York

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met French President Emmanuel Macron in New York late Monday.

The meeting followed Macron’s talks with U.S. President Donald Trump at Trump Tower, where the French leader urged faster delivery of defensive weapons to Ukraine and discussed a possible moratorium on energy strikes.

Macron discusses Ukraine-Russia energy truce with Trump

France's President Emmanuel Macron said that he had discussed with U.S. President Donald Trump initiatives aimed at securing a moratorium between Ukraine and Russia on attacks linked to the energy sector. 

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Macron said the two leaders had held a “very good” and “very constructive” discussion on the conflict and agreed on the need to help Kyiv strengthen its defences.

“We had a lengthy discussion on Ukraine and Russia, the need to help our Ukrainian friends more quickly and more strongly in terms of interceptors, because that is the key issue from a defensive point of view,” Macron said.

Lithuania has evacuation plans

Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius said his country has made evacuation plans in the face of threats from Russia, but added they “will not surrender” if attacked. 

Sinkevičius told BBC Newsnight that Lithuanians feel “constantly threatened” by Russia, in part because of drones entering the nation's airspace. He said that if his country, a NATO member, was attacked, “we will fight back... we will engage”.

Zelenskyy calls for energy strike halt

In a statement on  X, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine was ready to halt strikes on Russian energy facilities if Moscow stops targeting Ukraine’s energy sector, critical infrastructure, and food exports.

“Ukraine’s energy sector, critical infrastructure and our food exports must stop being targets for Russia, and this will lead to matching de-escalation steps on our part,” he said.

He said Kyiv was ready to discuss the issue with the U.S. and other partners on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
