Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it targeted a U.S. military facility in Jordan with ballistic missiles and carried out attacks against 10 vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The attacks came in response to U.S. strikes on five Iranian oil tankers, which Washington said were carried out after Iran targeted a U.S. Navy warship with missiles. Jordanian authorities said their air-defence systems intercepted most of the incoming missiles and reported no casualties.
Two people were killed and three others injured in a Russian overnight attack on a border checkpoint between Ukraine and Moldova, Odesa Governor Oleh Kiper said on Telegram. He added that 16 people were evacuated to safety. In southern Russia, four people, including a child, were killed and 29 others injured in Ukrainian drone attacks on Novorossiysk, Krasnodar Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said. Five apartment buildings, a church and a kindergarten were also damaged, he added.
The United States has announced import bans on a range of Canadian products, including dairy goods, alcoholic beverages, non-alcoholic beer and motorcycles, with the restrictions set to take effect on 29 September. Other Canadian goods, including cheese, paper, furniture, metals, motorboats and fishing equipment, will face higher tariffs. The measures came as Canada introduced retaliatory tariffs on U.S. imports, including steel, clothing and furniture, following an escalation in trade tensions between the two neighbours.
A technical failure at UK air traffic control provider NATS caused widespread disruption at some of Britain’s busiest airports on Tuesday, with around 1,300 flights cancelled and hundreds more delayed, according to Flightradar24. Heathrow airport suspended arrivals for the rest of the day, while warning passengers that disruption would continue as airlines worked through the backlog. Ryanair said around 150,000 passengers were affected by delays of up to eight hours and that it had cancelled more than 200 flights. A further 177 cancellations had already been recorded for Wednesday, almost all at Heathrow.
Wildfires in Türkiye’s Antalya province have forced residents from at least 254 homes to evacuate as strong winds fuelled the flames in the Aksu and Kepez districts. Two people were hospitalised with leg injuries, while six others were treated at the scene for smoke exposure. More than 100 dogs were also evacuated from an animal shelter, while over 2,000 homes were affected by power outages. Authorities deployed aircraft, helicopters, fire engines and hundreds of firefighters to battle the blaze, while investigations into its cause are ongoing.
