The Kremlin on Friday responded to a repeated threat by US President Donald Trump to impose tariffs on the BRICS countries if they were to establish their own currency, clarifying that there are no such plans in place.
On Thursday, Trump warned BRICS nations against replacing the US dollar as the global reserve currency, reiterating a threat he had made shortly after his victory in the November presidential elections to impose tariffs of up to 100%.
However, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that BRICS, of which Russia is a member, is not discussing the creation of its own currency, but is instead focused on developing joint investment platforms.
Peskov also suggested that US experts should provide President Trump with more detailed briefings on BRICS' current initiatives.
