Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Friday that a pause in the conflict in Ukraine may be approaching, following a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Speaking at a news conference, Tusk noted that while it was too early to talk about an end to the war, there were signs and a general sense that a freeze in hostilities could be near. “There is some hope,” he added.

Zelenskyy reportedly expressed cautious optimism and highlighted Ukraine’s interest in involving Poland and other European nations in shaping a possible ceasefire and future peace agreement.

Poland, a NATO member, has remained one of Ukraine’s most vocal supporters since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022, citing national security concerns. Kyiv and its allies argue that Moscow is waging an aggressive campaign to seize territory.

In a message posted on X, Zelenskyy said he and Tusk had discussed potential diplomatic avenues and agreed to align efforts to protect shared European interests. He also briefed the Polish leader on recent discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump and other European heads of state.

“Ukraine, Poland, and our European partners need solid guarantees for security and independence,” Zelenskyy said. “Achieving a lasting peace is critical, and I appreciate the willingness of our allies to support this effort.”
