A Ukrainian drone attack on Russia’s Moscow region killed at least one person and damaged a warehouse belonging to online retailer Wildberries, Russian officials said, as both sides continue targeting infrastructure during the war.
Moscow region Governor Andrei Vorobyov said an 83-year-old man was killed and several others were injured in Podolsk, where a Wildberries warehouse was reportedly hit.
He said damage was also reported at other locations, including a warehouse in Domodedovo, near one of Moscow’s main airports.
Reuters footage from the Koledino Wildberries facility showed a large plume of smoke rising over the site following the reported attack.
Russia’s largest online retailer has become a target in recent weeks, with Ukrainian officials accusing the company of handling military-related goods. Kyiv has said its strikes on Russian economic infrastructure are aimed at weakening resources supporting Moscow’s military campaign.
A separate incident was reported earlier in the week in Russia’s Tver region, where debris from what local authorities described as “enemy drones” damaged the wall of another Wildberries warehouse. No employees were injured in that incident.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said it had intercepted and destroyed 822 Ukrainian drones across the country overnight.
Russian officials reported damage in several areas, while Ukrainian officials have also continued to report Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
The latest attack comes as both Moscow and Kyiv intensify long-range strikes targeting logistics, energy and industrial facilities linked to the war effort.
Meanwhile, Russian forces struck Ukraine's biggest steel plant overnight in the industrial city of Kryvyi Rih, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's home town.
At least two people were killed and 14 injured, Ukrainian officials said.
"As a result of the attack, key production facilities in the power generation and blast furnace sectors have been damaged, and the plant’s production processes have been partially halted," ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih said on Telegram.
A Russian missile strike on Kyiv early on Sunday (16 August) caused fires in at least two districts of the capital, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. The city's military administration said three people were injured.
