At least six people were killed and dozens injured in overnight Ukrainian drone strikes on Russia’s Belgorod region, while Russian missile and drone attacks killed two people in Kharkiv and injured eight others in Odesa, according to regional authorities.
The attacks sparked fires in two apartment buildings and damaged numerous residential and non-residential properties. Authorities said 29 apartment blocks, five private houses, administrative buildings and commercial facilities were damaged.
Emergency crews continue searching affected buildings.
In Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, Russian missiles struck a high-rise apartment building in the Saltivskyi district, killing two people and injuring 13, according to regional governor Oleh Syniehubov.
Eight more people were injured in the Black Sea port city of Odesa after “dozens of missiles and drones” targeted the city and surrounding region, local administration head Oleh Kiper said.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its overnight strikes targeted drone warehouses in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, as well as fuel depots and other military supplies at the port of Odesa.

Ukrainian drones have carried out a deadly drone attack on industrial and civilian targets in the city of Nizhnekamsk in Russia's Tatarstan region which killed a number of people, Radmir Belyayev, the city's mayor said in a statement on Telegram. Nizhnekamsk hosts a major oil refinery.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s General Staff said its forces struck the Ilsky and Syzran oil refineries overnight, causing fires at both facilities. Local authorities in Russia’s Krasnodar region later said a fire at the Ilsky refinery had been extinguished and was caused by debris from a Ukrainian drone.
The Syzran refinery is located in Russia’s Samara region. Regional governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said drones had targeted an industrial facility but did not identify the site.
The strikes come amid continued Ukrainian attacks on Russian energy infrastructure and other targets deep inside Russia, including the country’s largest online retailer, Wildberries, according to Russian and Ukrainian officials.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces had destroyed more than 150 Ukrainian drones overnight over the country, as well as over Russian-occupied Crimea, the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.
In Novorossiysk, a major Russian export port on the Black Sea, drone debris fell on two facilities, according to local mayor Andrei Kravchenko. The local crisis centre later said three residential buildings were damaged and one person was injured.
The latest attacks come as both sides continue to target infrastructure and military facilities far from the front line, with Ukraine focusing increasingly on Russian energy infrastructure and Russia continuing missile and drone strikes across Ukrainian cities.
At least 12 people were killed and 39 injured in the city of Nizhnekamsk in Russia’s Tatarstan region following a Ukrainian drone attack on industrial and civilian targets, according to city mayor Radmir Belyayev.
The attack hit Tatneft’s TANECO oil refinery, one of Russia’s most technologically advanced refineries. The facility was also targeted by Ukraine in early June. In 2024, TANECO processed 17 million tonnes of crude oil, producing 2.7 million tonnes of gasoline and 8.5 million tonnes of diesel fuel.
Meanwhile, Russian forces say they've taken control of two villages in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region, according to state-run RIA news agency on Sunday, citing the Russian Defence Ministry.
The ministry report on Telegram said Russian forces had seized Vasyutinske, a few kilometres east of the "fortress city" of Kramatorsk, and Toretsk, southwest of the city of Druzhkivka.
Ukrainian forces made no acknowledgement of the two settlements changing hands and Reuters could not verify the battlefield reports independently.
