At least eight people were killed in overnight Ukrainian drone strikes across Russia, regional officials said, as Kyiv expanded attacks on infrastructure.
Russia's Defence Ministry said it intercepted 635 Ukrainian drones overnight, while regional authorities reported casualties and damage across several regions.
Ukrainian forces have increasingly targeted logistics and commercial infrastructure that they say supports Russia's war effort. Wildberries, the country's largest online retailer, has been hit repeatedly since mid-July as Kyiv seeks to disrupt supply chains inside Russia.
In the border region of Belgorod, acting Governor Alexander Shuvayev said a Ukrainian drone struck an area next to a playground, killing one child and injuring two others. Russia's commissioner for children's rights, Maria Lvova-Belova, described the attack as "another inhumane terrorist act" by Ukraine. Kyiv's Defence Ministry did not immediately comment.
A drone attack also hit a Wildberries warehouse in the Samara region, around 800 kilometres from Ukraine's nearest frontline positions. Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said the strike caused a fire but no casualties.
The attack is part of a broader Ukrainian campaign targeting Russia's economic and logistics infrastructure. Since mid-July, Ukrainian forces have repeatedly struck Wildberries facilities in an effort to disrupt the operations of the country's largest online retailer.
Separately, a warehouse in Russia's central Vladimir region caught fire and was damaged in a drone attack, TASS news agency reported on Monday, citing the regional governor.
In the neighbouring Saratov region, a strike on a residential building killed two people in the city of Engels, Governor Roman Busargin said. Civilian infrastructure was also damaged in Engels and Saratov, which hosts a major oil refinery, while Engels is home to a Russian military airbase.
Ukraine's military said it had struck the Saratov refinery, the Engels airbase and an oil depot in Russia's Kaluga region, claiming fires broke out at all three sites.
Three people were killed in a drone attack on Russia's Udmurtia region, while regional authorities in Belgorod reported three more deaths and five injuries in separate Ukrainian strikes.
In Bashkortostan, Governor Radiy Khabirov said Russian air defences repelled a large-scale drone attack on industrial facilities, with one drone shot down over the regional capital of Ufa.
Russia's Defence Ministry said its forces carried out strikes on infrastructure and vessels carrying military cargo in and around the Ukrainian port of Mykolaiv. In Ukraine, Zaporizhzhia regional Governor Ivan Fedorov said Russian glide bomb attacks killed one person and injured several others.
