HeadHunter, Russia’s largest employment platform, is advertising for volunteer drone operators to help protect the skies over Moscow as authorities strengthen defences against an increase in Ukrainian drone attacks.

No experience required

The online listing seeks candidates for a volunteer unit known as the Combat Army Reserve Force, tasked with "ensuring the capital’s security using modern technical solutions and surveillance systems".

The role includes preparing and operating drones, conducting reconnaissance missions, and collecting surveillance data during both daytime and night-time flights.

The advertisement says applicants need only basic technical skills and a willingness to develop in the field, with no previous experience required.

The starting salary is listed at 150,000 roubles (around U.S.$1,950) a month, below the average wage in Moscow, which exceeds 200,000 roubles.

The vacancy was updated on 1 July, although it is unclear when it was first published.

Growing drone threat over Russian capital

The recruitment drive comes after Ukraine intensified drone strikes on Moscow in June, including two attacks within three days on a major oil refinery inside the city’s ring road.

The Kremlin has said it is strengthening air defences in response.

The development follows Russia’s deadliest strike of the year against Kyiv this week, which killed at least 30 people.
