U.S. President Donald Trump has nominated Oklahoma law enforcement veteran Lance Schroyer to serve as the next director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Announcing the nomination on Truth Social on Saturday, Trump described Schroyer as a "patriot" with nearly three decades of law enforcement experience and praised his record in tackling violent crime.

"Lance has over 29 years of Law Enforcement experience in Oklahoma," Trump wrote. "He is a PATRIOT with real operational experience, and proven leader with DECADES of experience locking up the worst of the worst."

Trump said Schroyer has "what it takes to detain and deport illegal alien criminals" and urged the Senate to confirm his nomination without delay.

The president also highlighted his administration's immigration enforcement efforts, claiming ICE and U.S. Customs and Border Protection are recording the highest daily arrest rates of any U.S. administration.

Schroyer's nomination comes after former ICE Director Todd Lyons resigned at the end of May. Since then, the agency has been led on an acting basis by David Venturella, a former executive at a private prison company.

If confirmed by the Senate, Schroyer will oversee ICE as the agency continues to play a central role in the Trump administration's immigration enforcement and deportation agenda.
