Emergency teams rescued 320 tourists stranded in 65 cable cars in Kashmir after a gondola disruption triggered a six-hour evacuation operation.

Six-hour evacuation

Emergency services in Indian-administered Kashmir rescued hundreds of tourists on Monday (25 May) after temporary disruptions to a gondola left passengers stranded across 65 cable cars.

The Kashmir Zone Police said teams from the Jammu and Kashmir Police Force, the State Disaster Response Force and other emergency services were sent to the site to evacuate passengers safely.

Footage released by police showed officers grappling onto cable cars, lowering passengers to safety and assisting rescue personnel during the operation, which authorities said lasted six hours.

The operation ended successfully, with all 320 stranded tourists rescued, according to authorities.

Forces praised

Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the response on X after the evacuation was completed, saying disaster response teams, army personnel, local police and the administration had worked together.

“The disaster response teams comprising the SDRF, NDRF, Army personnel, local police, and the administration swung into action and rescued all the passengers stranded in 65 cable cars through a six-hour-long operation,” Shah wrote.
