Russian attacks killed two people and injured 19 across Ukraine overnight, local officials said on Wednesday, while Kyiv launched drone strikes targeting industrial sites in central Russia.

In Ukraine, two people were killed and six wounded after Russian forces struck the southeastern city of Dnipro with missiles, drones and artillery, according to local authorities on Telegram. Officials also reported 13 injuries in the northern Sumy region and the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, including three children.

Both Russia and Ukraine deny deliberately targeting civilians.

Drones hit industrial sites in Russia

Ukraine has intensified drone strikes on Russia’s energy infrastructure, with the number of targeted oil refineries reportedly doubling since the beginning of the year, according to information shared by Russian officials on social media.

Kyiv said it aims to reduce Moscow’s energy revenues as the conflict enters its fifth year.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said 273 drones were intercepted across the country overnight, according to the TASS state news agency.

Industrial zones near Nevinnomyssk in the southern Stavropol region were also targeted, the regional governor said on Telegram, adding that no damage had yet been reported, although attacks were ongoing.

The area is home to the Nevinnomyssky Azot chemical plant, which has previously been targeted in Ukrainian drone strikes.

The town of Kstovo in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region, where a Lukoil oil refinery is located, also came under drone attack, the region’s mayor said on Telegram.

Two drones were reportedly shot down over the northwestern Leningrad region, which hosts one of Russia’s largest refineries and an oil export port.

Drone activity was also reported over Moscow and the Tula region south of the capital, according to local authorities. In the border region of Belgorod, an ambulance driver was injured in another reported attack.

The attacks come as Russian President Vladimir Putin visits China alongside senior government officials and business leaders on Wednesday, as Beijing remains one of Russia’s key energy buyers.
