Boeing booked more aircraft orders than Airbus in 2025 for the first time since 2018, official figures showed, even as the European manufacturer delivered more planes during the year.

U.S. aircraft manufacturer Boeing recorded 1,173 aircraft orders in 2025, surpassing European rival Airbus for the first time in seven years, according to newly released data.

The total marked a sharp increase from Boeing’s 377 net orders in 2024 and represented the fifth-highest annual order tally in the company’s history.

Despite the surge in orders, Boeing delivered fewer aircraft than Airbus last year. Boeing delivered 600 jetliners in 2025, its highest annual total in seven years and up from 348 deliveries the previous year.

Airbus delivered 793 aircraft during the year, more than Boeing but below its record of 863 deliveries in 2019. The European planemaker reported 889 net aircraft orders for 2025.

Aircraft deliveries across the industry have continued to face delays due to engine shortages and other supply chain constraints. Deliveries are a critical metric for manufacturers, as airlines typically pay most of an aircraft’s purchase price upon delivery.

In December, Boeing delivered 63 aircraft and secured 174 new orders, including more than 100 Boeing 737 MAX jets for Alaska Airlines, which the carrier disclosed last week.

Earlier on Tuesday, Delta Air Lines announced it had placed its first-ever order for wide-body Boeing aircraft, committing to at least 30 Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
