A railway hub near Kyiv was struck during a large-scale Russian drone and missile assault, damaging the depot and railway carriages, the Ukrainian state railway company Ukrzaliznytsia reported on Saturday.

No casualties were reported from the overnight attack in Fastiv, near the capital. In recent weeks, Russia has stepped up strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and transport networks, targeting power stations and railway facilities.

Ukrzaliznytsia said on Telegram that several suburban train services near Kyiv and in Chernihiv in northeastern Ukraine were cancelled.

Emergency services reported fires and damage at the railway station and depot, without providing further details. Infrastructure in the Chernihiv region was also affected.

Ukraine’s Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories said power and heat generation facilities in Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions were targeted.

In the southern Odesa region, 9,500 customers remained without heating and 34,000 without water supply.

“Port facilities in Odesa were also attacked: part of the infrastructure lost power, and operators have switched to backup generators,” the ministry added.

The Ukrainian energy ministry confirmed that energy infrastructure across eight regions was hit overnight, causing widespread blackouts. “Emergency repair work is already underway where it is safe, and energy companies are doing everything possible to restore supply quickly,” the ministry said on Telegram.

Poland scrambles jets

Separately, sirens sounded early on Saturday in Lubartów in Poland’s Lublin region, according to private broadcaster RMF FM.

Local mayor Krzysztof Pasnik said the warning was triggered by the situation in Ukraine. Polish jets were scrambled overnight in response to the attacks, but the Operational Command of the Armed Forces confirmed that Polish airspace had not been violated.
