The White House said on Thursday (November 20) that senior Trump administration officials met with Ukrainian representatives this past week to discuss a peace plan designed to be acceptable to both Ukraine and Russia.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio have been quietly working on the plan for about a month. She said they have been engaging both sides equally to understand what commitments would be necessary to achieve a lasting peace.

“President Trump has made it very clear, since day one, and even on the campaign trail that he wants to see this war come to an end. He has grown increasingly frustrated with both sides of this war, Russia and Ukraine alike, for their refusal to commit to a peace agreement,” Leavitt said.

Leavitt emphasised that discussions are ongoing and the details of the plan remain in flux.

“As always, I'm not going to litigate the details of this plan as it's ongoing and it's in flux. But the president supports this plan. It's a good plan for both Russia and Ukraine. And we believe that it should be acceptable to both sides. And we're working very hard to get it done.” she added.

The administration’s efforts reflect a high-level push to explore avenues for ending the conflict while balancing the positions of both Moscow and Kyiv.
