Brussels Airport temporarily halted air traffic on Wednesday evening following the sighting of a possible drone near the airfield. Flight operations were suspended for about half an hour as a precautionary measure, according to Belgian air navigation service provider Skeyes.

The incident occurred around 10:30 pm local time, and air traffic resumed shortly before 11:20 pm. No departing flights were scheduled after 10 pm, but at least two incoming flights were diverted to Liege Airport before later returning to Brussels, arriving with delays.

The brief disruption highlights ongoing concerns over drone incursions near airports and military facilities in Europe. In recent months, several countries, including Belgium, have reported similar incidents, prompting fears that these could be linked to geopolitical tensions.

Some European officials have pointed to Russia’s involvement in such drone activities, connecting them to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Moscow, however, has denied any involvement in these incidents.

As the investigation into Wednesday’s drone sighting continues, the event serves as a reminder of the growing risks drones pose to airport security, especially as air traffic ramps up across Europe.
