The Pakistan army said on Saturday that it stopped a major terrorist attack near the Afghan border, killing three militants in an operation in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), troops acted on intelligence reports about militants preparing a vehicle for a suicide attack in the Jhallar area. The army said the vehicle was destroyed before it could be used.

After the operation, security forces searched the area to clear out any remaining threats.

North Waziristan has seen an increase in militant activity in recent months, despite several military operations to restore security.

Last week, a suicide bombing in the same district killed seven security personnel. Militants tried to enter a military base in Khadi village but were stopped by troops, who killed four attackers.

On 16 October, the army said it had killed about 80 militants in a series of raids across North and South Waziristan, Mohmand and Bannu districts.

The military said it remains alert to possible cross-border attacks and efforts by militant groups to reorganise along the Afghan frontier.
