President Donald Trump has said he will meet his Russian counterpart Vladmir Putin for face to face talks in Hungary after a phone call on Thursday.

The U.S. President says "great progress" was made during the call which is the first with his Russian counterpart since mid-August.

The phone conversation with Putin comes just a day before he is due to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House.

Zelenskyy had said in earlier in the week that he had briefed Trump on Russia's bombardment on its energy systems adding that they discussed air support for Ukraine.

The U.S. President says he will discuss his conversation with President Putin during his meeting with Zelenskyy.

"President Zelenskyy and I will be meeting tomorrow, in the Oval Office, where we will discuss my conversation with President Putin, and much more." Trump said

In a post made on his Truthsocial platform, Trump said he and Putin "spent a great deal of time talking about Trade between Russia and the United States when the War with Ukraine is over".

He did not confirm the date of the planned meeting with the Russian President saying "a meeting locarion is to be determined".

While hosting Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the White House, Trump had expressed disappointment in Putin and his refusal to end the Ukrainian war.

He also said that securing a ceasefire in the Ukraine conflict was proving more difficult than the Middle East, in reference to the Israel Gaza war at the time.

Just a day ago while meeting Nato Defence Ministers, the U.S. Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth had warned that costs would be imposed on Russia if it failed to end the war.

On Israel - Gaza ceasefire

Trump also said "President Putin congratulated me and the United States on the Great Accomplishment of Peace in the Middle East, something that, he said, has been dreamed of for centuries.

I actually believe that the Success in the Middle East will help in our negotiation in attaining an end to the War with Russia/Ukraine." he said.

He turned his attention to Hamas urging them to stick to the provisions of the deal which they agreed to.

"If Hamas continues to kill people in Gaza, which was not the Deal, we will have no choice but to go in and kill them." he said.

Israeli Defence Forces confirmed earlier in the week that they neutralised some suspects in Gaza as they crossed a yellow line and approached IDF personnel.

Animosity continues to grow over hostage recovery with Israel urging Hamas to keep its end of the ceasefire deal.
