The Israeli military says one of the four bodies handed over by Hamas overnight does not belong to an Israeli hostage, raising tensions over the ceasefire deal and aid deliveries to Gaza.

The Israel Defense Forces said forensic examinations confirmed that one of the four bodies transferred by Hamas “does not match any of the hostages.” The statement called on Hamas to “make all necessary efforts to return the deceased hostages.”

The handover came amid disputes that had delayed the reopening of Gaza’s main Rafah crossing. Israel had threatened to keep the crossing shut and reduce aid supplies, accusing Hamas of returning the bodies of Israeli hostages too slowly.

Aid trucks began entering Gaza on Wednesday as Israel prepared to reopen Rafah following the latest transfers. Officials said about 600 trucks were expected to deliver supplies, while Hamas’ armed wing said it would hand over two more bodies later in the evening.

U.S. President Donald Trump, who brokered the ceasefire, warned that Israeli forces could resume operations in Gaza if Hamas fails to comply with the truce. “Israel will return to those streets as soon as I say the word,” Trump told .

Hamas had previously returned eight bodies over two days.

Humanitarian needs in Gaza remain dire. Nearly all residents have been displaced, and aid agencies warn of famine and collapsing health services. The United Nations says 600 daily truckloads are the minimum required, but far more assistance is still waiting at border crossings.

Israeli troops have withdrawn to what the ceasefire defines as a “yellow line” outside Gaza’s main cities. Defence Minister Israel Katz warned that Israel would act immediately if Hamas violates the truce.
