Israel said on Tuesday that it received the bodies of four hostages from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the Gaza Strip, according to media reports.

Four coffins were handed over to Israeli forces from the Red Cross, Israel’s official broadcaster KAN reported. The Israeli army confirmed the transfer, saying the remains were on their way to the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) and Israel Security Agency (ISA) in Gaza.

The ICRC had earlier received the remains of four Israeli hostages in Gaza and was tasked with transferring them to Israeli authorities. Hamas has not provided official confirmation of the handover.

The transfer of the dead comes shortly after Hamas released 20 living Israeli hostages on Monday in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, marking the first phase of a ceasefire agreement brokered under a plan announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on 29 September.

Phase two of the agreement is expected to involve the creation of a new governing mechanism in Gaza without Hamas’ participation, the deployment of a multinational force, and the disarmament of Hamas.
