Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tokyo on Friday for a two-day summit, aiming to strengthen strategic and economic ties with Japan during growing U.S. trade pressures.

Modi’s visit to Tokyo on 29–30 August will focus on enhancing critical mineral partnerships and attracting Japanese investment in high-value manufacturing sectors in India, officials said.

The summit gains added significance as both nations are part of the Quad alliance with Australia and the U.S., aimed at countering China’s influence in the Indo-Pacific region.

Despite tensions with Washington over trade tariffs, India confirmed that Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba would discuss expanding cooperation within the framework of the regional security grouping, reflecting shared interests in economic growth and strategic stability.
