A light plane was forced to make an emergency crash landing on a golf course in Sydney on Sunday (17 August) after the aircraft lost power.

The two occupants, an instructor and trainee pilot, both escaped with minor injuries and no bystanders were harmed at the busy Mona Vale Golf Club.

“On arrival, crews were confronted with a light aircraft that had made an emergency landing post losing power," explained New South Wales Ambulance Acting Inspector, Chris Peck.

"Both occupants, males in their 50s, self-extricated, both with minor injuries and have been transported to Royal North Shore (Hospital) for observation,” he added.

"Remarkably, given the nature of the accident, both the pilot and the trainee pilot had minor abrasions but were coherent and had full recollection of events,” Peck said.

Local media reported that the plane was participating in a training flight, and the trainee pilot was operating the aircraft at the time of the crash.

Tom was on the Green when he saw what happened. “It sort of was coming in straight from that angle there, straight towards us, and then just at the very end, I was like ‘oh no don’t tell me, it’s coming for us’, I was terrified and then luckily it turned and it sort of did a right, yeah right, and it hit the ground. But yeah unbelievable, yes.”

Martin noted the expertise of the pilot.

“We’re sitting on the deck having a drink and all of a sudden he’s there, people sitting there before, I reckon he was looking for a spot to fly into and not to hit people, he did a good job the pilot.”

Parts of the golf course remained closed on Monday (18 August), according to local media.
