Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Pakistan on Saturday, August 2, for his first official two-day visit since taking office, at the invitation of Pakistan’s Prime Minister.
He was welcomed at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport by former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Nawaz Sharif, along with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
During his stay in Lahore, President Pezeshkian paid tribute to Pakistan’s national poet, Allama Iqbal, by visiting his mausoleum. There, he was received with an honour guard, laid a floral wreath, and signed the official guest book.
Later, Pezeshkian travelled to Islamabad, where he was warmly received by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi and senior officials, Pezeshkian is scheduled to meet Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Sharif during his visit.
This marks Pezeshkian’s first official trip to Pakistan as Iranian President. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Sharif last visited Iran in May
