Indonesia's Mount Dukono erupted again, sending a thick ash plume 1,100 meters into the sky, as volcanic activity intensifies across the region.

Mount Dukono, one of Indonesia's most active volcanoes, erupted early Friday, releasing a dense ash column that rose 1,100 meters above its summit, or 2,187 meters above sea level, according to the Geological Agency’s monitoring post.

The gray-to-black ash drifted eastward and the eruption was still ongoing at the time of reporting. A similar eruption occurred on 24 June.

Located on Halmahera Island in eastern Indonesia, Dukono has been erupting almost continuously since 1933. The country, situated along the Pacific 'Ring of Fire,' is highly prone to volcanic and seismic activity and is home to around 130 active volcanoes.

Meanwhile, authorities raised the alert level of another active volcano, Ile Lewotolok in the south, from Level 2 to 3 after heightened activity was observed beginning 27 June.
