Vietnam to finalise $8bn Boeing deal in U.S. trade pact

Vietnam is set to confirm the purchase of 50 Boeing planes worth $8 billion, alongside agreements to import $2.9 billion in U.S. agricultural products, as part of a wider trade deal, Politico reported on Wednesday.

The announcement follows high-level talks between U.S. and Vietnamese officials, signalling strengthened economic ties.

The Southeast Asian nation is poised to conclude the long-discussed aircraft deal alongside existing agreements to buy $2.9 billion worth of U.S. agricultural products.

In September 2023, Vietnam Airlines signed a $7.8 billion contract with Boeing following a meeting between former U.S. President Joe Biden and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Hanoi.

On the same day the report emerged, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a new trade agreement with Vietnam, describing the cooperation as “a great deal between our two countries.”

Both parties are working towards finalising the deal within the coming weeks.

Boeing has yet to confirm the report.
