McLaren’s Oscar Piastri stormed to victory at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on Sunday, overtaking Max Verstappen and rising to the top of the Formula 1 driver standings.
Oscar Piastri continued his stellar start to the season by winning the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, securing back-to-back victories after his triumph in Bahrain and climbing to the top of the Formula 1 standings.
Starting second on the grid beside Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, Piastri took the lead early after Verstappen was handed a five-second penalty for leaving the track while battling for position at turn one. The Australian insisted he had the racing line.
“Once I got on the inside, I wasn’t coming out of turn one in second,” Piastri said after the race.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc rounded out the podium in third, while Piastri’s teammate Lando Norris recovered from a crash in qualifying to finish fourth, thanks to a well-executed race strategy.
The 23-year-old McLaren driver now has three victories in five races this season—already surpassing his career total before 2025—and has firmly established himself as a title contender in what’s shaping up to be a tightly fought championship.
