Air Canada is set to resume its flight services on 20 August, after a nearly four-day strike by its unionized flight attendants left more than 500,000 passengers stranded.
Aircraft sat idle on the tarmac and departure boards displayed extensive delays as strike-related disruptions continued at Toronto Pearson International Airport, leaving travelers stranded. “Air Canada is really being tested from both sides, the customers and the workers as well,” said Toronto resident Szuli Szava, voicing the frustration felt across the crowded terminal.
"While the restart of our operations will begin immediately, we expect it will take several days before our operations return to normal," the airline said.
On Tuesday, the airline and the flight attendants’ union reached a tentative agreement, though no details have been released. The union stressed that unpaid duties were over.
The walkout began Saturday after negotiations between the union and Air Canada collapsed, with flight attendants demanding compensation for tasks such as passenger boarding.
Air Canada has not yet reinstated its third-quarter and full-year profit guidance, which it withdrew because of the strike.
