The International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF) has confirmed that Azerbaijan will host the Ski Mountaineering World Championships in 2027, marking the first time the country will stage the prestigious event.
Following a request from the Azerbaijan Winter Sports Federation, the International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF) has approved the country’s bid to host the Ski Mountaineering World Championships. The event will be held at the Shahdag Tourism Center from February 28 to March 7, 2027.
This marks the first time Azerbaijan will organize the world championships in the sport, which continues to gain international recognition and was recently added to the Olympic program. Shahdag, located in the Greater Caucasus Mountains, has become a key hub for winter sports in the region and is expected to offer ideal conditions for the competition.
The ISMF has officially included the event in its international calendar, with athletes from around the globe set to compete in various disciplines during the week-long championship.
Officials from both the ISMF and Azerbaijan’s Winter Sports Federation hailed the decision as a major milestone for the country’s growing winter sports infrastructure and a boost for tourism in Shahdag.
