Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to Kyrgyzstan next week to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, where he is expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings with regional leaders.
Presidential aide Yury Ushakov told reporters on Friday that Putin will attend the two-day summit in Bishkek beginning on Monday.
His delegation will include Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk and presidential administration official Maxim Oreshkin.
The summit is expected to focus on strengthening the SCO and expanding cooperation among its members across political, economic and security issues.
Ushakov said Putin is scheduled to hold nine bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the gathering.
The meetings will include talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
Around 20 to 25 documents are being prepared for adoption at the summit, including a final declaration, according to Ushakov. Leaders are also expected to participate in an “SCO Plus” meeting involving countries and organisations beyond the bloc’s core membership.
Pakistan is set to assume the rotating SCO chairmanship following the Bishkek summit, while Russia is due to take over for 2027-2028.
The SCO brings together China, Russia, India, Iran and several Central Asian and other states, and has increasingly positioned itself as a platform for security, economic and political cooperation across Eurasia.
Following the summit, Putin is expected to travel to Vladivostok in Russia’s Far East on Tuesday evening to attend the 11th Eastern Economic Forum.
He is scheduled to address the forum’s plenary session on Wednesday and hold further meetings on its sidelines.
Ushakov said Putin would meet Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang during the gathering.
The annual forum is one of Russia’s main platforms for promoting investment and economic cooperation in its Far East and strengthening commercial ties with Asian partners.
