Syria has dispatched a rescue team to Venezuela to support search-and-rescue operations following the deadly earthquakes that struck the country earlier this week, marking the first overseas deployment of Syrian rescue personnel.

According to Syria's state news agency SANA, the mission was launched under the direction of President Ahmad al-Sharaa and coordinated by the Foreign Ministry.

The 15-member team from Syria's Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management departed Damascus on Saturday to assist emergency response efforts. The operation is being carried out in partnership with the International Rescue Team of Qatar's Internal Security Force, which is providing heavy machinery and operational equipment.

SANA described the deployment as a "historic milestone" for Syrian humanitarian work, marking the country's first international disaster response mission.

The deployment follows two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela on Wednesday. Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez said the death toll has risen to 1,430.
