President Ilham Aliyev has described urban planning as a "priority direction" in Azerbaijan’s national development strategy, in an address to an international forum which opened in the city of Khankendi on Wednesday.
The President's message was delivered by Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture, at the start of the 3rd Azerbaijan National Urban Forum. The three-day event has brought together approximately 400 delegates from 60 countries, including government officials, academics, and representatives from the private sector.
In his address, the President noted that Azerbaijan’s approach to urbanisation aims to support economic sustainability and adaptation to climate change. He highlighted the extensive reconstruction and restoration projects in the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions as a prime example of the state’s "strategic vision and implementation capabilities".
The forum, held under the theme “Towards Climate-Resilient and Healthy Cities,” will provide a platform for experts to discuss challenges ranging from post-conflict recovery and housing to the use of innovative digital solutions in urban development.
Participants will be shown the large-scale development projects underway in the region before the event concludes in the capital, Baku, on Friday.
