World leaders have expressed condolences following the tragic crash of an AZAL flight near Aktau, Kazakhstan, offering support and solidarity to the victims' families.
While onboard the plane, President Ilham Aliyev called Russian President Vladimir Putin.
During the conversation, President Aliyev informed President Putin that he would be unable to attend the informal CIS Heads of State Summit in St Petersburg due to the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane flying from Baku to Grozny. He also conveyed his decision to return immediately.
The two leaders expressed their condolences to one another, as well as to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in the crash, which involved citizens of Azerbaijan, Russia, and other countries. They also wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
