Former U.S. President Joe Biden raised concern after being spotted in Delaware over Labor Day weekend with a large scar on his head while greeting well-wishers.
Footage posted on social media showed the 82-year-old appearing frail and bearing a visible red wound across the front of his head, partially hidden by his white hair, as he left a church in Rehoboth Beach.
Fred Karger, who filmed the video and spoke to Inside Edition, described the mark as “noticeable” and resembling the aftereffects of skin cancer removal. “It looks fresh, with some hair combed over the scar,” he said.
Biden’s representatives later confirmed he had recently undergone Mohs surgery, a treatment for skin cancer that removes thin layers of tissue until all cancerous cells are cleared while preserving surrounding healthy skin, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Although the exact timing of the procedure is unclear, Biden was seen wearing a bandage in late August while attending the funeral of former Delaware Governor and Congressman Mike Castle. In February 2023, he had a basal cell carcinoma removed from his chest.
Earlier this year, Biden was diagnosed with an “aggressive” prostate cancer that has spread to his bones. Doctors discovered a small nodule on his prostate along with other cancer cells, classifying it as Stage 4.
Despite this, his longtime physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor declared him “fit to serve” in February 2024 following a routine examination at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, when Biden was still the presumptive Democratic nominee.
News of the prostate cancer diagnosis has fuelled accusations that Biden’s inner circle concealed the extent of his physical and cognitive decline from the public. He is currently receiving treatment.
