The signing of the Political Declaration by Pashinyan and Aliyev in the presence of Trump at the White House was described as a major development for both Armenia and Azerbaijan, paving the way for lasting and sustainable peace, while also marking the culmination of years of EU mediation efforts.
Costa and von der Leyen stressed the importance of timely implementation of the agreed steps to ensure steady and uninterrupted progress towards full normalisation of relations. They noted that the EU has been encouraged by the decisive steps taken by the leaders in recent years, building on their discussions in Brussels.
The EU reaffirmed its strong support for the normalisation process and expressed readiness to invest in regional connectivity and economic opening, aiming to benefit populations affected by decades of conflict and bring the South Caucasus closer to sustainable peace, stability and prosperity.
