Russia and its oil customers to face sanctions if no peace deal in 50 days

The White House says Russia will face tough new tariffs — and countries buying its oil will be sanctioned — if it does not agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine within 50 days.

Spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told reporters that if Russia refuses to accept a peace deal or ceasefire in that timeframe, it will be hit with "very steep" tariffs.

“Countries that continue to buy Russian oil will also be sanctioned. That will seriously harm Russia’s economy,” she warned.

Leavitt said President Donald Trump is committed to ending the war through diplomacy. “He wants to stop the killing and save lives,” she added.
