The Middle East conflict remains tense as diplomatic efforts continue alongside renewed Houthi attacks. Iran says it remains open to mediation, while the Saudi-led coalition says it intercepted a ballistic missile fired towards the kingdom.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intercepted and destroyed an MQ-1 drone east of the Strait of Hormuz, the semi-official ISNA news agency reported Thursday, citing the force.
The IRGC said the drone was the 14th MQ-1 to be intercepted and destroyed by its air defence system.
According to ISNA, the incident took place in the skies east of the Strait of Hormuz, opposite the coastal area of Sirik.
South Korea is considering several options for a possible deployment to the Strait of Hormuz, including sending a maritime patrol aircraft, National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac said on Thursday.

The Saudi-led coalition says it destroyed a ballistic missile fired by Yemen’s Houthis towards eastern Saudi Arabia early on Thursday.
The country's civil defence had earlier issued alerts for Najran and the Eastern Province before later saying the danger had passed.
Qatar has put forward a new proposal aimed at ending the war with the U.S. and Israel, but a senior Iranian official said Doha had only put forward unacceptable ideas that did not amount to an offer.
The draft reportedly includes a seven-day timeline of confidence-building measures addressing concerns from both sides. Tehran says it remains open to diplomacy but will not soften its position on the nuclear issue.
The mediation comes amid renewed regional tensions and growing concerns over oil supplies following Houthi attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure.
