Oil prices rise as traders assess supply risks

Oil prices climbed on Wednesday, with Brent crude futures rising 89 cents, or 0.8 per cent, to $106.58 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude gained 80 cents, or 0.9 per cent, to $94.94.

The gains followed mixed settlements on Tuesday, when Brent fell 0.9 per cent, and WTI advanced 0.4 per cent, as traders weighed supply risks from fighting between Yemen’s Houthis and Saudi Arabia against the prospect of increased diesel supplies from Russia, Reuters reported.

Brent settled at $105.69 a barrel on Tuesday, while WTI closed at $94.14.

Trump says Yemen's Houthis are 'behaving very badly'

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday said Houthi militants who control vast swaths of Yemen were “behaving very badly” as consequences of the U.S.-Iran war spill into the broader Middle East.

Trump told reporters that he “might” ask Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan to intervene and support Saudi interests.

“President Erdoğan, I think, would do as I ask,” Trump said.

U.S. rejects Iran’s claim of control over Strait of Hormuz

The U.S. military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) on Tuesday rejected claims by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that it controls the Strait of Hormuz and would sink any approaching U.S. Navy warships.

“IRGC's navy commander has no navy. American forces and regional partners clearly control the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM said on X.

Trump warns of further action against Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump signaled further action against Iran during a campaign rally Tuesday in the state of Alaska.

“Wait till you see what we do to Iran. We're going to do a number. We sort of had it. You know we've had it,” Trump told supporters in Wasilla, where he was campaigning for Republican candidates ahead of the midterm elections.

“They’re just waiting. They’re waiting,” he said.

“We’ve had it, but you know it doesn’t matter. The big thing is they were not going to have a nuclear weapon,” he added.

Egypt, Pakistan FMs discuss regional de-escalation

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call with his Pakistani counterpart, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, to discuss regional developments, efforts to ease tensions and strengthen coordination ahead of an upcoming meeting of foreign ministers from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Saudi Aramco building hit as Houthi attacks intensify

An administrative building at Saudi Aramco’s headquarters in Dhahran was hit late Tuesday, sparking a limited fire. 

Authorities responded to the incident late on Tuesday and took necessary measures, the ministry said, adding that there were no injuries or deaths.

The complex hosts a major operations centre for Aramco, which oversees a vast network of onshore and offshore oil rigs, pipelines, refineries and export terminals. 

Saudi authorities said missile and drone interceptions in Dhahran and Riyadh caused debris to fall in residential areas, injuring four people and damaging 15 homes in the capital.

4 injured, 15 homes damaged by missile debris in Riyadh

Four people were injured, and 15 homes sustained minor damage after debris from two intercepted cruise missiles fell in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh, authorities said early Wednesday.

Saudi Civil Defence said the missiles were launched by Yemen's Houthi group and intercepted Tuesday, with falling debris injuring two women, a man and a child.

The agency said emergency procedures were carried out following the incident.
