Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has warned that the Russia-Ukraine war is now threatening trade in the Black Sea.

Speaking at an event presenting Türkiye’s 2025 export figures, Erdoğan said the conflict, now in its fourth year, has reached a stage where it risks disrupting vital Black Sea trade routes.

He noted that the war has left hundreds of thousands dead, wounded, or displaced, and said Ankara is taking measures to prevent further damage to regional trade.

“This war has now reached the stage of threatening Black Sea trade,” Erdoğan said, adding that Türkiye wants the conflict to end through a “just peace.”

Erdoğan stressed that Türkiye is ready to assume full responsibility to help open a path toward peace, underlining that Ankara does not seek political gain from conflict.

“We have no intention of benefiting from blood and tears,” he said. “The foundation of our foreign policy is to make friends, not enemies.”

Türkiye has positioned itself as a key mediator since the start of the war, including efforts to secure shipping and grain exports through the Black Sea.
