Kyrgyzstan will soon unveil its first biennial transparency report, meeting international standards and shared global goals, Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baisalov announced today at the COP29 ministerial roundtable on global climate transparency.
Baisalov highlighted that Kyrgyzstan has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 40% since 1990 and accounts for less than 0.03% of global emissions. Despite these contributions, the country remains committed to advancing climate transparency and action.
"As a mountainous nation, Kyrgyzstan faces unique challenges from climate change, including severe disasters this year," Baisalov noted. To address these issues, the Mountain Areas Climate Initiative was established to amplify the voices of mountain nations and foster global cooperation on adaptation and resilience.
He also underscored the pressing need for increased climate financing for vulnerable nations, advocating for fair solutions that consider historical responsibilities.
"Through transparency and solidarity, we can transform challenges into opportunities and secure a sustainable future," he added.
The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is currently underway at the Baku Olympic Stadium, running until November 22. This marks the largest event hosted by Azerbaijan and the first COP session held in the region.
