Kazakhstan has launched a unified digital platform to track coal supplies in real time, giving officials a clearer view of production, shipments, stocks and prices ahead of the heating season.
The Ministry of Energy announced the new system following the first meeting of the Republican Headquarters for Ensuring Coal Supplies to the Utilities Sector and the Population.
Officials said the new platform brings together data that was previously collected from several separate parts of the supply chain. It provides a single digital picture of coal movement, from production and shipment to transportation, stockpiling and sales to consumers.
Production and shipment volumes, coal movement, stock levels at railway sidings and warehouses, prices and the implementation of regional plans will all be monitored in real time, according to the ministry.
The system is designed to compare data across different stages of the supply process and flag potential problems more quickly. Officials said it can identify where stocks are insufficient, shipments have slowed or delivery schedules are at risk of disruption, allowing authorities to respond before consumers are affected.
"Our task is to make the entire supply chain transparent and visible at every stage, and, most importantly, to identify deviations in advance and take the necessary measures before they affect coal supplies to the population," said Yerzhan Yertayev, chairman of the Committee for State Energy Supervision and Control.
The ministry plans to expand the platform by adding artificial intelligence tools, enabling deeper data analysis and more precise detection of potential risks across the supply chain.
During the 2025-26 heating season, about 8.15 million tonnes of coal were supplied to Kazakhstan's regions, equal to 109 per cent of the planned volume.
Demand for the upcoming heating season has been set at 7.3 million tonnes. Kazakhstan currently has 951 railway sidings and 586 coal sales operators.
