The programme led with Israel’s rejection of a U.S.-backed roadmap for Gaza, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying Israeli forces would not withdraw until Hamas is fully disarmed. Hamas said it accepted the latest version of the plan but linked weapons arrangements to an Israeli withdrawal and an end to attacks.
Daybreak also examined U.S.-sponsored talks between Israel and Lebanon, including discussions over Hezbollah’s disarmament and verification mechanisms. Maurice Hirsch, Senior Researcher at the Jerusalem Center for Security and Foreign Affairs, said the success of any agreement would depend on Lebanon asserting control over its territory and preventing further threats from armed groups.
The programme also covered Iran’s position on negotiations with the United States, as Tehran says direct talks cannot resume until its concerns over alleged ceasefire violations are addressed. Iran and Oman meanwhile reported progress on arrangements for maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
