Kieran Culkin won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar on Sunday, earning his first Academy Award for his role as a fast-talking American tourist in A Real Pain.

A Season of Success

Culkin, 42, was the heavy favorite after winning the BAFTA, Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice, and SAG Awards for his performance. The film, about two cousins on a Jewish heritage tour in Poland, was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay.

“I have no idea how I got here,” Culkin said on stage. “I’ve been acting all my life, but I never felt like this was my trajectory.”

From Succession to the Oscars

A longtime actor, Culkin is best known for playing Roman Roy in HBO’s Succession, a role that won him a Golden Globe. His film credits include Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Igby Goes Down, and Father of the Bride.

Culkin's co-star Jeremy Strong, also nominated in the supporting actor category, lost out for his role as Roy Cohn in The Apprentice.

With his Oscar win, Culkin adds another milestone to his celebrated acting career.
