Apple's Vision Pro headset is expected to receive a major update incorporating Apple Intelligence as soon as April, according to a new report from Bloomberg.
This update, part of visionOS 2.4, will mark the first time Apple’s artificial intelligence features are available on the mixed-reality device.
AI Features Coming to Vision Pro
The first Apple Intelligence tools set to debut on the Vision Pro include Writing Tools, Genmoji, and Image Playground. Writing Tools assist users with text-related tasks, while Genmoji allows AI-generated emoji customization. Image Playground offers users the ability to create and manipulate images using AI-powered tools.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, developers may gain access to these features in beta testing as early as this week. However, Siri’s long-anticipated AI enhancements are reportedly not part of this update, as Apple has delayed its planned “major AI overhaul” for the voice assistant.
Expanding Apple Intelligence
Apple Intelligence first rolled out to iPhones, iPads, and Macs in the fall of 2024, introducing features such as notification summaries, ChatGPT integration for Siri, and improved generative capabilities like Genmoji. The Vision Pro, which launched earlier in 2024, has yet to benefit from these AI-driven enhancements, but the upcoming update aims to change that.
New Spatial Media App
In addition to Apple Intelligence, the visionOS 2.4 update is expected to include a new app designed for viewing spatial media, such as 3D images and panoramas. This enhancement could significantly improve the immersive experience for Vision Pro users.
What’s Next for Vision Pro?
While Apple has yet to officially confirm the rollout timeline, sources suggest the update could arrive in April. The Vision Pro, Apple’s first foray into mixed reality, has been praised for its high-resolution displays and intuitive interface, but the lack of AI features has been a noted limitation. The introduction of Apple Intelligence could significantly enhance its usability and expand its appeal to a broader audience.
With developers gaining early access to the new tools, users can likely expect a steady stream of AI-driven applications and experiences in the coming months.
