The 50-year long House of Al-Assad grip on power in Syria is over. Syrian rebels have declared control over the capital of Damascus and rebels soldiers have been seen on grounds of the presidential palace.
This comes after armed anti-government groups led by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham have taken over a string of cities with the goal to overthrow the Syria's President, Bashar al-Assad. Reports have surfaced of Assad fleeing the country to an undisclosed location.
In just 10 days, the insurgent group has made its way from the north of the country in Aleppo, towards Damascus, and now with the rebels in the capital, they've taken to state media to declare their presence.
