Eight men were arrested Friday morning following a violent clash near the Iranian embassy in London, police confirmed.
The Metropolitan Police said seven were detained on suspicion of grievous bodily harm during an altercation at a protest on Prince’s Gate, near Hyde Park. A separate man was arrested for breaching a police order preventing serious disorder in the area.
Two men were injured during the incident and taken to hospital for treatment, with their injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
Police have set conditions banning protests near the embassy until Sunday afternoon to prevent further unrest.
The protest involved groups both supporting and opposing the Iranian leadership.
This is not the first time demonstrations near the Iranian embassy have turned violent. Similar clashes occurred in 2022 and 2023, linked to protests over the death of Mahsa Amini in Iran.
