U.S. President Donald Trump will extend the deadline for TikTok's U.S. divestment for a third time, giving 90 more days to finalize a sale, the White House confirmed.
Originally, TikTok was required to cease operations by January 19 unless ByteDance sold its U.S. assets or made significant progress toward doing so. Trump, who began his second term on January 20, opted not to enforce the measure and has since granted two extensions- first to April, then to June 19. The new extension will push the deadline to mid-September.
In March, Trump hinted he was open to lowering tariffs on Chinese goods to secure a deal for TikTok’s U.S. operations. Negotiations this spring focused on creating a new U.S.-based company majority-owned by American investors.
