Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced that Kazakhstan plans to build at least two or three nuclear power plants and is considering China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) as a key strategic partner in this initiative. Speaking during his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Tokayev emphasized CNNC’s global expertise and reliability in the nuclear industry, positioning the company to play a major role in Kazakhstan’s nuclear energy sector.
Tokayev also pointed to the strong history of nuclear cooperation between the two nations, highlighting Kazakhstan’s role as a trusted supplier of uranium and nuclear fuel to China. The move marks a significant step in Kazakhstan’s push to diversify its energy sources and strengthen energy ties with China.
