South Korean President Lee Jae Myung met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi during last weekend's G20 summit in South Africa, Lee's office on Monday.

Lee told Li he hoped to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing soon, and Li agreed to convey the message. Lee stressed the need for communication to build mutual trust, a view Li shared, according to the statement.

Lee said communication is important to build up mutual trust between the two countries, and that Li agreed with that, the statement said.

In his talks with Takaichi, the two leaders reaffirmed the importance of bilateral ties amid an increasingly unstable international environment.

Speaking on Sunday, Lee also pledged to ensure the G20 remains the most influential forum for international cooperation when South Korea hosts the summit in 2028.
