Iran calls on UN nuclear agency to act against Israeli strikes

Iran is urging the UN nuclear watchdog to strongly condemn Israel over recent strikes on its nuclear sites, accusing the U.S. of being complicit.

Reza Najafi, Iran's permanent representative to the IAEA demanded that the agency condemn Israel for its attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities and accused the United States of having prior knowledge and involvement. Speaking at an emergency IAEA board meeting, Najafi called for accountability and criticized the agency for not acting on Iran's repeated warnings about potential threats to its safeguarded sites.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi confirmed that while there was no structural damage to the underground parts of Natanz and Fordow, power supply issues may have affected some centrifuges. He noted radiation levels remain normal, posing no public risk, and emphasized the agency’s readiness to inspect sites once safety allows.

The Israeli strikes, which began on June 12, destroyed parts of the Natanz pilot enrichment facility and caused damage at Esfahan, including its uranium conversion plant. Other key sites like Fordow, Khondab, and Bushehr were reportedly unharmed. Over 400 people, including senior officials and scientists, were killed in the attacks, which also led to the cancellation of upcoming nuclear talks between the U.S. and Iran.
