Forced displacement worldwide has hit a record 122.1 million, driven by conflicts in Sudan, Ukraine, and beyond, as humanitarian needs soar.

According to the latest UNHCR Global Trends Report, the global number of people displaced by war, violence, and persecution has risen to an unprecedented 122.1 million, up from 120 million last year. Sudan now faces the world’s largest displacement crisis, with 14.3 million displaced people, surpassing Syria, Afghanistan, and Ukraine.

Despite stagnant humanitarian funding, nearly 10 million people returned home in 2024, including 1.6 million refugees and 8.2 million internally displaced individuals. Most refugees remain in neighboring countries, with low- and middle-income nations hosting 73% of them. UNHCR urges urgent investment to support returns, host communities, and humanitarian aid to address this escalating crisis.
